This paper will discuss the way ethical principles get used for addressing the issues. This paper includes the information of a short film which is retrieved from the Responsibility Project web site. The paper includes several discussions which are; why are the issues in film are important? What role do external social pressures have in influencing organizational ethics? How might these issues be relevant to organizational and personal decisions? What is the relationship between legal and ethical issues as shown in the film? Why Are the Issues in the Film Important? Good vibration is a whimsical, which is an animated tale tells about the community responsibility and the cost of being complacent. This film is more focused on the community responsibility; there is the same issue which is found here about the organizations and communities. This film has presented a scenario where the whole employees of an organization make fun of the helpless individuals as these individuals are getting hurt tripping on the loose brick in the sidewalk. After a while several people get injured and an elderly gentleman came walking down the sidewalk. After that an employee opened up the window to warn the elderly gentleman and showed him he caution sign so he wont get injured. A specific problem of this film would be that instead of someone taking the charge to solve the issue, everyone planned to laugh on the individuals who were getting hurt through the loose brick. There are many organization which deals with the same kind of personalities. There are times when an individual found a problem in the organization, but instead of solving that the one just ignores the issue and make fun of that. The main problem with such issues is, they get ignored for a very long time and then become incurable and cause big loss to the organizations and people associated with it. External Social Pressures and Organizational Ethics The factor external social factor plays an important role in influencing the organizational ethics. At a time there would be many stakeholders and most of the time their interests overlap. Stakeholders include employees, customers, shareholders, and communities. Enron for a general example created a series of off-the books partnership which were used to hide the Enrons massive amount of debt and increase its share prices. This attempt was made to attract new share investors and to maintain the present stakeholders (Trevino and Nelson, 2006). If the outside world would know the financial situation of Enrons condition, then he would have been gone very down so quickly. Enron was trying to get time to bring the business afloat. This is the one major example which reflects how external social pressure would force the organization to make such steps normally. If the more stakeholders are involved within the organization then, there would be more chance of having overlapping interests between stakeholders. Organizational and Personal Decisions There are many issues which can take place within an organization, internally and externally. There are some major issues which can force an organization to discard their ethical and legal responsibilities in an attempt to save their organization. There are times when organization considers these decisions as the best available option to make implemented till the time the organization dont understand how serious and wrong these decisions were. or an example the Enron scandal was a case where the employees was aware about the processes which include illegal and unethical activities in the organization, but none of them took a step to stop these activities to be happened. The short film has talked about this case earlier. When the problem gets exploded everyone took a side to save themselves. at many times an organization need to understand what can be the best option for everyone involved in the organization which would be legally and illegally, rather than the organizations financial status. In the case of Enron it would be better if the organization published their financial status instead of hiding it for so long as they did. Through this attempt the organization hurt many individuals directly and indirectly to fill their bankruptcy. Relationship between Legal and Ethical Issues Most of the time there is a relation between the legal and ethical issues. As there are some acts, sometimes which can be unethical and that would also be illegal at the same time. As the film mentioned in its cenario, that people were laughing at the individuals who was getting hurt through the loose brick, instead of solving that problem. There is a ethical issue in this particular scenario but not a legal issue. The people should fix up the problem through putting a sign board over there. This particular scene is not having the illegal act but i strongly believe that it was the ethical responsibility of employees to fix that problem. Conclusion This particular short film portrayed that, what can happen within an organization if none of the employee’s steps up and takes action. The old saying goes, â€Å"One bad apple can ruin the bunch. † The same can be said with ethical and legal responsibilities within an organization. Although the external social pressures may influence the organizational ethics, the organization needs to maintain their legal and ethical standards for the good of society and the growth of the organization as a whole. Organizational and personal decisions are also influenced by organizational issues. A fact which is legal does not necessarily mean that it is ethical as well.

Crucible and McCarthyism Essay

In American History there were two proceedings that were very similar, yet three hundred years apart. The Salem Witch Trials took place in 1692, the seventeenth century and McCarthyism took place in 1948 between 1956, the mid twentieth century. These two proceedings are known as two of the greatest mass tragedies in America. The Crucible is an allegory of McCarthyism or in other words the second Red Scare. During McCarthyism the United States was petrified of Communists influence. Many people in both the Crucible and McCarthyism who feared the court provided names of suspects in an attempt to save themselves. Throughout these two proceedings, there is the concept of mass hysteria. Mass hysteria is a form of group thinking in which several people have something in common and begin to think in the same way. The Crucible began as a way for the oppressed girls to avoid being punished. The girls then found this to be an ideal way to get revenge on anyone whom you disliked. People started accusing their neighbors of being witches so they could steal their farmland. Others, like Abby, accused others of being witches if they wanted to steal their husband or wives, or even possessions. The McCarthy hearings, as they were known as, were known to have dominated our country. These hearings, were of suspects being related to communism, were interviewed and forced to give up the names of others, or they were imprisoned, and their names were black listed. One similarity between McCarthyism and the Salem Witch Trials is that â€Å"everybody is doing it mentally.† The lives of the innocent people were ruined in both eras because of all the accusations and punishments. Both the people accused in the Salem Witch Trials and the people accused in The McCarthy hearings were found guilty with such little evidence. There were so many uninhabited accusations, with little to no proof. During the Crucible time period, those accused of being witches were sometimes sentenced to be tied to a rock and thrown in a pond, and if they sank, they were declared innocent, but if they somehow survived the dunking, then they were shown to be witches and then executed. Most of those found guilty of witchcraft were hung. In the Crucible, Giles Corey was pressed to death with r ocks, because he refused to plead guilty or innocent. Throughout the Crucible people’s names are destroyed even when they are completely innocent. In the book The Crucible by Arthur Miller, John Proctor states, â€Å"Because it is my name! Because I  cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name†(Miller)!

Known for: role of influence and power in her husbands dictatorship in Romania Occupation: politician, scientistDates: January 7, 1919 - December 25, 1989Also known as: Elena Petruscu; nickname Lenuta Elena Ceausescu Biography Elena Ceausescu came from a small village where her father was a farmer who also sold goods out of the home. Elena was failing in school and left after the fourth grade; according to some sources, she was expelled for cheating. She worked in a lab then in a textile factory. She became active in the Union Communist Youth and then in the Romanian Communist Party. Marriage Elena met Nicolai Ceausescu in 1939 and married him in 1946. He was a staff member with the army at the time. She worked as a secretary in a government office as her husband rose to power. Nicolai Ceausescu became first secretary of the party in March 1965 and president of the State Council (head of state) in 1967. Elena Ceausescu began to be held up as a model for women in Romania. She was officially given the title The Best Mother Romania Could Have.  From 1970 to 1989, her image was carefully created, and a cult of personality was encouraged around both Elena and Nicolai Ceausescu. Given Recognition Elena Ceausescu was given many honors for work in polymer chemistry, claiming education from the College of Industrial Chemistry and the Polytechnic Institute, Bucharest. She was made chairman of Romanias main chemistry research lab. Her name was put on academic papers actually written by Romanian scientists. She was chairman of the National Council of Science and Technology. In 1990, Elena Ceausescu was named deputy premier.  The power wielded by the Ceausescus led  the  University of Bucharest to grant her a Ph.D. in chemistry Elena Ceausescu's Policies Elena Ceausescu is usually assumed to be responsible for two policies which in the 1970s and 1980s, coupled with some of her husbands policies, were disastrous. Romania under the Ceausescu regime outlawed both abortion  and birth control, with Elena Ceausescus urging. Women under the age of 40 were required to have at least four children, later five Nikolai Ceausescus policies, including that of exporting much of the agricultural and industrial output of the country, caused extreme poverty and hardship for most citizens. Families could not support so many children. Women sought illegal abortions or gave children up to state-run orphanages. Eventually, parents were paid to give children to the orphanages; Nikolai Ceausescu planned to create a Romanian Workers Army from these orphans. However, the orphanages had few nurses and had food shortages, causing emotional and physical problems for the children. The Ceausescus endorsed a medical answer to the weakness of many children: blood transfusions. The poor conditions in orphanages meant that these transfusions were often done with shared needles, resulting, predictably and sadly, in AIDS being widespread among the orphans. Elena Ceausescu was head of the state health commission which concluded that AIDS could not exist in Romania. Collapse of the Regime Anti-government demonstrations in 1989 led to a sudden collapse of the Ceausescu regime, and Nikolai and Elena were tried on December 25 by a military tribunal and executed later that day by a firing squad.
